Biography
American Christian missionary to Ecuador who, along with four other missionaries, was killed while attempting to evangelize the Huaorani people, through efforts known as Operation Auca. He died by spearing on 8 January 1956 at age 28 in Curaray River, Ecuador. The news of the missionaries' deaths was broadcast around the world, and Life magazine covered the event with a photo essay.
He had married Marilou Hobolth on 29 June 1951. At the time of Ed's death, Marilou was eight months pregnant with their third son, Matt. She never remarried, and died of cancer on 24 April 2004.
