Taylor Swift - Global Miss Americana
By Alison Boulton
Her tens of millions of fans worldwide are called ‘Swifties’ and she has 14 Grammy Awards to her name, among so many other accolades. What lies ahead for this mega-talented Sagittarian singer-songwriter – in life and love?

Her Ascendant 25°33’ Scorpio indicates that she approaches life with sensitivity and caution. Swift’s penetrating gaze, slightly hooded eyes and low forehead all resonate with the Scorpio eagle, and the mystery around her birth time also chimes with a Scorpio window on the world.
Scorpio is a Fixed Water sign: contained, often impenetrable and very sensitive. No one reads the room like a Scorpio Ascendant. Conversely, they can be very hard to read. Her angular Mars at 26°41’ Scorpio adds to the intensity and gifts her incredible determination, imagination, deep emotional power and the ability to keep secrets.
Scorpio co-ruler, Pluto, sits in the 12th house of the collective unconscious, linking the Ascendant to the deeper realms of the collective psyche and enabling her to ‘tune in’ to the spirit of the times.
Swift’s Sagittarius Sun falls in the 1st house and is completely unaspected. So, this optimistic, radiant, fiery energy bursts into the world without constraint or question. In the Equal House system, the Sun rules – and trines – the 10th house Leo cusp becoming a blazing, unadulterated beacon of supremely confident solar energy projecting itself out into the world. This seems entirely apt for a woman who, in concert, is every inch the star and, like Sagittarius ruler, Jupiter, naturally takes the lead role in her own myth.
This bright Sagittarius Sun mixed with the intensity of Scorpio creates an approach to the world which somehow manages to be full of energy, fun and mysterious all at the same time.
At its best, Sagittarius is a fiercely independent sign with a joyful confidence and buckets of self-belief that spill over to inspire and give confidence to others. It has an openness and honesty that is devoid of dissimulation. Sagittarius is all about the journey. It hopes you’re on board, but if you can’t make it, too bad: Sag will go anyway and might see you there.
Taylor Swift’s Big Three
Sun (our core centre): Sagittarius
Yang, Cardinal, Fire
Ruler: Jupiter
Sagittarius can be… adventurous, confident, honest, expansive, philosophical, freedom-loving, optimistic, versatile, friendly, alive, strong, visionary…careless, slapdash, reckless, inconsiderate, unreliable, inconsistent, bossy, insensitive.
Moon (our instinctive responses): Cancer
Yin, Cardinal, Water
Ruler: Moon
Cancer can be…fun, caring, emotional, sensitive, nurturing, protective, tenacious, thrifty, imaginative…clannish, needy, moody, conservative, self-pitying.
Ascendant : (our approach to the world): Scorpio
Yin, Fixed, Water
Rulers: Mars and Pluto
Symbols: the Scorpion and the Eagle
Scorpio can be…incisive, determined, perceptive, penetrating, self-controlled, passionate, prophetic, thorough, powerful…shy, secretive, possessive, morbid, vindictive, suspicious, jealous, critical, resentful.
Elements:
Fire: Sun
Earth: Mercury , Saturn
Air: Venus
Water: Moon , Mars , Jupiter
Taylor Swift has a good balance of all four Elements. Water is primary so she may have a strong imagination and be naturally caring and sensitive, often using feeling to navigate her world.
All of which might make Taylor Swift sound unapproachable
Not so. In conversation she comes across as honest, quick-witted and genuinely friendly – a real person, in fact. She has Mercury in Capricorn which has a reputation for serious thinking, but Capricorn can also have a dry sense of humour and it would have been impossible to script her interviews with UK chat show host Graham Norton. She is genuinely entertaining and often funny. Mercury trines the MC to within 8 minutes of arc enabling her to express herself fluently on the public stage.
Swift’s 3rd-house Venus in Aquarius, unaspected apart from an edgy quincunx to her Moon, contributes to her likeable nature. Venus is about relating and values. Aquarius is kind and friendly in a detached, impersonal way, suggesting she sees herself as a citizen of planet Earth along with everyone else. The Moon in Cancer adds sensitivity and feeling.
Swift’s Aquarian Venus and Sagittarian Sun also reflect her strong belief in independence and her status as a pro-choice feminist. She has publicly criticised the US Supreme Court’s decision to end Federal abortion rights and she advocates for LGBT rights, as well as supporting gun control reform. In the 3rd house it reflects her commitment to speaking publicly on these issues.
Swift has a packed 2nd house of personal resources and values
This opposes an equally packed 8th house of shared resources and values. The task of balancing these will probably be an important theme in her life. The opposition falls across the Cancer/Capricorn axis, signs which describe the challenge of combining nurturing and caring with duty and responsibility.
This see-saw in her chart with Uranus, Mercury, Neptune and Saturn in Capricorn opposed to Moon, Jupiter and Chiron in Cancer, raises the possibility of emotional volatility in her childhood and a high level of parental expectation. The eating disorder she describes in her documentary Miss Americana may relate to this, as may her strong desire to be ‘good’.
Parental pressure to succeed may not have been intentional but Swift’s sensitive Scorpio Ascendant and Cancer Moon will be adept at picking up the unspoken and often unconscious messages. She may have simply sensed that parental approval and emotional ‘nourishment’ depended on being ‘good’ and doing it ‘right’ (Cancer Moon opposition Capricorn stellium), and that these could be withheld if somehow, she wasn’t ‘good’.
When Miss Americana was released on Netflix on 31 January 2020, transiting Mercury stood on the cusp of Swift’s natal 4th house exactly square her Ascendant/Descendant axis suggesting this was an important moment for her. Had she said the right things? How would her revelations be received? Generally, the documentary was considered successful and fans loved it but, perhaps predictably, many critics felt it didn’t reveal enough.
Swift is incredibly wealthy as the 2nd house indicates, and, with Saturn in Capricorn in the 2nd she takes the responsibility of her wealth seriously. She has invested substantially in real estate (Capricorn loves property) but is also known for her generosity and philanthropy (Sagittarius Sun, Jupiter and Moon in Cancer in 8th).
Her Virgo Midheaven is ruled by Mercury and trined by the Capricorn stellium. This is a skilful, self-critical and ambitious combination. It offers her the ability to minutely plan and organise her extremely busy and complicated life – something she has said she prefers to do herself. She is also known to work incredibly hard, which is very Virgo/Capricorn. She consistently performs demanding dance routines while simultaneously singing and engaging with the audience, as well as writing or co-writing all of her own material.
Swift’s Sagittarius solar energy might be independent and outgoing
But her Moon in Cancer gives us a glimpse of the caring, nurturing and more vulnerable person behind the performer, and this is the self she reveals in her lyrics. It’s this authenticity that makes her so relatable. In ‘So Long, London’, a song from her latest album The Tortured Poets Department she sings about her break-up with Joe Alwyn.

“You shit-talked me under the table, talking rings and talking cradles/I wish I could un-recall how we almost had it all,” and “I’m pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free”.
Swift is alluding to the fact that a break up for women in their thirties can be so much more than just a broken heart – it can be the smashing of their dreams of a family. Taylor Swift, with the Moon in nurturing Cancer conjunct Jupiter – which co-rules the 5th house of children – probably intends to have a family some day. She has certainly mentioned in an interview how her “grandkids will be able to Google what she was wearing”. Her closeness to her own mother is symbolised by the Moon/Jupiter conjunction and it tells us that she finds meaning through nurturing and emotional closeness. This may be something she hopes to replicate.
So, how do things look with Swift’s current partner, American football hero, Travis Kelce?
His birth time is unknown, but his Libra Sun and Mars will definitely be all about relationship. This is a guy who is naturally charming, friendly and sociable, able to negotiate and find the middle ground in order to maintain balance and equanimity in his life.
Something had to be extra-strong to bring these two people together and to hold them fast through all the media scrutiny. Kelce’s natal Venus in Scorpio conjunct Swift’s Mars and Ascendant signify powerful sexual attraction. And, fortunately, Scorpio knows how to be loyal and to stick with something even when the going gets tough. A Scorpio Venus is always invested in its relationships. Kelce might want more closeness than Swift’s Aquarian Venus is comfortable with but this is hopefully something that can be worked through.
There are lots of positives in their synastry, so perhaps this is the man to share Taylor Swift’s life-adventure. With her Sun and his Moon both disposited by Jupiter in Cancer, they also share a nurturing, family-oriented vibe.
2024 has been phenomenally successful for Taylor Swift and the current Solar Return (December 2023) reflects this, with Mars in Sagittarius tightly conjunct the Midheaven and Saturn in Pisces making dreams come true through commitment and hard work on the Ascendant.
So, what energies are coming into Swift’s life as she turns 35?
Both Saturn and Neptune leave Pisces for Aries next year where they will challenge her natal Moon perhaps highlighting her mother’s illness and her own hopes of starting a family at some point. Swift has already shared her mother’s cancer diagnosis and there could be some emotionally challenging times ahead as the family continue to work through this.

Transiting Pluto conjunct natal Venus in Aquarius in the 3rd house suggests major transformation of values and relationships and perhaps also the sense of stepping into her power as a woman and vocalising her ideals. Swift has been using her platform to support issues she believes in for some time, but she has now also moved into politics to endorse Kamala Harris for the US presidency – an action which immediately elicited a toxic and personal response from Elon Musk. These kinds of Plutonic power battles are something she may have to contend with this coming year as she continues to use her influence to give voice to her ideals.
Transits suggest that the road may not be easy through 2025 and deep emotions may be involved but it doesn’t mean that Swift won’t get what she wants or be able to work through the challenges. Her planets in Water gift her a deep understanding of the process of life and that upbeat Sagittarius Sun has the ability to keep on moving optimistically towards the horizon.
Taylor Swift’s birth time
This has been the subject of considerable debate. In Tay: The Taylor Swift Story, biographer Jill Parker quotes a birth time of 05.17 though this has never been independently verified. Throrough examination of Swift’s chart, together with research into her life, suggest that it stands a good chance of being accurate and it has been used in this article.
